Entrelaçando ensaios memorialísticos e poesia escritos por seis imigrantes brasileiras, o livro bilíngue Entre-Between nos fala de instigantes experiências inerentes à imigração da mulher nos EUA, o país que abriga a maior diáspora de brasileiros no mundo. 

Nas histórias tocadas pelo lirismo brasileiro da palavra “saudade”, os textos revelam os desafios e as contradições de se conviver entre-between duas culturas, geografias e línguas distintas Por vezes comoventes, inspiradoras e cômicas, as histórias capturam as complexidades de ser uma brasileira-americana e habitar a “condição do hífen”. Para um imigrante, o hífen é um elo que representa dois mundos ao mesmo tempo unidos e separados.

The bilingual book Entre-Between is a powerful collection of stories written by six Brazilian women who have been brought together by the shared need to remake their lives in the USA. The writings reveal the challenges inherent to immigrant women of all nationalities, who need to straddle entre-between two different geographies, cultures and languages.

Each piece is infused by the lyricism of the Brazilian word “saudade” (longing, melancholy, and desire). At times moving, inspiring and comical, the memoir essays and poetry interweave to capture the contradictions of being a Brazilian-American. The hyphen in Entre-Between is the link which represents two different worlds, at once united and separated.

Without falling into the traps of statistics or dogma, the reader will encounter compelling stories of lives marked by adventure and the courage to reinvent oneself in a territory fraught with uncertainty.

Entre-Between is a timely contribution to the vital debate of immigration in the United States. While there is a wealth of Latina autobiographical writings, the absence of narratives by Brazilian immigrant women stands out.
